Entrepreneurship has always had a significance in Max Feber’s life. Since he was just a kid, the successful entrepreneur and Shark Tank contestant had a love for building.
From building drop candy boxes for his sister or a photo booth, Feber loved to create and build new things.
“I can’t identify a single origin point that turned me into an entrepreneur,” Feber said. “I think as a kid, I was always looking at things and trying to understand how to do things differently, how to improve systems, and how to build things. I was obsessed with building things.”
In high school his love for building turned entrepreneurial, leading to the development of his first business, BRUW. At 15 years old, Feber founded the company and continued to run it until his senior year of college.
Feber entered Shark Tank at just 18 years old pitching his product that simplified cold brew coffee making. He got a deal with Mark Cuban who invested $50,000 for 30% of the company.
In May 2020 Feber sold the company to move on to future endeavors.
Starting off as a young entrepreneur, Feber recognized the time commitment needed to run a business. Waking up to go to school, coming home to run his business, and finishing the night studying or doing homework was a daily cycle for Feber.
“You have to be an entrepreneur because you have a love for the game and because you really just love it,” Feber said. “Not because, you know, you want to just make as much money as possible and you don’t want to work hard because it’s not the kind of path that entrepreneurship will lay out for you.”
Feber advises other young entrepreneurs to approach this as a career, know what you want to do, and be ready to learn new things.
Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to make sure they are ready. Running a business takes a lot of commitment and energy.
The community Feber felt throughout his entrepreneurship journey is one of the reasons he loves this field.
“This is the reason I love entrepreneurship and I will miss it in a corporate environment,” Feber said. “When you are running a small business, it could be an e-commerce business, it could be whatever, it could be as a student, anywhere you are, if you’re doing a good job, it can feel like your entire community around you is pouring in to support you. And that’s what I felt after Shark Tank. My entire world showed up for me.”
Now at 26 years old Feber is working on business development consulting in New York City.
Feber will be back at Texas State University November 7th and 8th to take part in Ignite 3.0 with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
